Hlohovec Observatory and Planetarium (jpg 136kB)

Position of the observatory:

The observatory is located in the south-west part of the town of Hlohovec. It is just about 15 minutes on foot from the town square. The observatory itself is situated on the top of the hill called Svinna hora ("Swine hill"). We supply map of Hlohovec (jpg 250kB) for better orientation, as well as brief description of the path with complementary photos (pictures in jpg format, approximately 150kB in size).

How can you find us:

Path from the railway station: Right after you get off your train you have to pass round the railway station via path on the left. You should see small buildings with pointed roof and a resident building behind them. You have to pass round these buildings and to follow long tiled road up to the T-shaped crossroad at the end. The way takes about 10-15 minutes. Then you should see quite modern bank building slightly on the left and the town square and church on the right. Pass the square beside the shops (via slightly rising footway with road-fence). You should walk around a drug store, bookshop and fruit & vegetables shop, Hotel Jelen, Quarto restaurant etc. Follow the footway till car park and high block of flats. There you have to turn left. You should pass around the grocery shop after 40 metres. Follow the road till crossroad (approximately next 20 metres). There you have to turn right. Follow the road and turn left approximately after 50 metres. The road has very steep slope there and you have to go to the top of the hill. Finally (after 300 metres) you will see the car park in front of observatory building and the large yellow building of planetarium on the left. You have to ring the bell at the first building and your journey is over :)

Path from the bus stops: There exist three bus stops in the town of Hlohovec. First one is located on Nitrianska street near post office. The second one is on Hlohova street near town square. And the third one on Zeleznicna street nearby railway station. The first and second stops are both about 200 metres from the town square, thus it is easy to find the way to the square and then follow the instructions from previous paragraph. In the case of the last mentioned stop, just go to the raylway station and then follow the instructions from previous paragraph.

Car travel route: We suppose that you are comming from highway via Hlohovec access road. Pass around the town of Leopoldov and continue straight via bridge across Vah river to enter the town of Hlohovec. Right after the bridge is the traffic circle. Go one quarter around the traffic circle and turn right. After this you have to turn left to the town square. Go straight about 50 metres to enter the square. You should see church on the left side. Go straight through the square and turn right. You should see shops on the left and car park in front of high block of flats on the right. Then turn left onto the first branch. After about 40 metres you should see grocery store on the right. Continue approximately 20 metres to the crossroad and then turn right. Follow the road to the hill and after about 50 metres turn left onto the branch to the top of the hill. The road has very steep slope there and you have to drive to the top of the hill. Finally (after 300 metres) you will see the car park in front of observatory building and the large yellow building of planetarium on the left. You have to ring the bell at the first building and your journey is over :)
